There’s something to be said about the power of iconic modern furniture.  I’ve always thought these designs can create a powerful interior with even the slightest amount of color.  Mid-century modern furniture has got to be my favorite, and nothing looks sleeker than a seamless floor to ceiling glass window with beautiful  furnishings to let do the talking.

Originally made by famed Bauhaus German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929, the leather upholstered chair was originally crafted with ivory pigskin, later being replaced with bovine leather.  There’s also a daybed and coffee table in the Barcelona collection, and you’d better believe that I’d throw all of my current living room furniture right out the window if I could get my hands on a set of some of these originals!  The look is just so sleek and low-profile, perfect for a minimal interior design aesthetic.

The “less-is-more” style of this iconic chair commands attention from those who are around it, and they’re just so beautiful!  We love it so much at Studio M that even our logo incorporates the legendary design and elements of simplicity that the Barcelona chair effortlessly infuses into any room.

It would be a challenge for me, but I would totally keep things sleek and minimal if I could design my home exactly the way I’d want it (and spare no expense while doing so, ha!).  I think that there are some rooms I’ve seen that incorporate the Barcelona chair with a lot of other elements in the room, but I think it only works if it’s done really thoughtfully and cautiously.  Otherwise it’ll just get overshadowed and lost in the space.  Large windows, groovy fireplaces, and glass coffee or side tables are ideal complements to this extraordinary piece of furniture – or better yet, work of modern art!
