  • Nontraditional shapes: Circular wreaths are the most well known shape for wreaths, but they can come in any shape. The wreath definition states that it’s “a twisted band or ring of leaves, flowers, etc…”  Dress up your kid’s doors with wreaths shaped liked the alphabet, stars, or square wreaths. The uniqueness comes in your twist on a holiday tradition. Instead of using all one shape of material, mix and match different size ornaments, leaves, and even your kid’s holiday crafts from school!

  • Food inspired wreaths: Why not include your favorite holiday treat in the form of a wreath? Candy, marshmallows, candied fruit, and berries all make for a beautiful backdrop for unique holiday wreaths. Try using varying sizes, and colors in the same arrangement to add visual interest and depth. If you want to create a semi-homemade wreath, visit your local craft store that already has wood, moss, or a natural covering. Use a hot glue gun and add on your favorite treats. For candy and food additions spray your finished wreath with a craft food preserver to keep for years and years.

  • Everyday household materials: Believe it or not, the newspaper you just put in the recycle bin could make for a great wreath! Do you keep holiday cards from year to year? This year, cut them into decorative shapes like leaves or stars and create an eco-friendly wreath. Coffee filters, fabric swatches, rope, and sea shells make for beautiful wreaths. Look around your home for buttons, knick knacks and materials that look great in collections. If you enjoy scrapbooking, consider using photographs and scrapbooking materials to give personality and uniqueness to your wreath. You’d be surprised how your front door or fireplace will look when they’re adorned with your unique holiday wreath addition.
