Design Lighting | Sand Pearl Condos

Today our Senior Designer, Jade Timmerman, shares one of her favorite items to pick out when designing a space. Some of you already know Jade from her popular Flip Flops and Pearls blog and others have met her on Twitter.

Lighting has got to be one of my favorite things to choose when designing a space. There are so many options and styles to choose from and I get lost for hours in all the possibilities! I believe the right lighting fixtures can make a room and take it from good to great!

I have been working on an awesome design project at the fabulous Sand Pearl residences on Clearwater Beach for the past few months. The owners wanted a fun, modern feel in the space. Originally, we were going to work around the fixtures that were already there but the deeper we got in the design process, the more I realized, they all had to go.

I started in the Entry with my lighting overhaul. I had a great, funky Romo wallcovering installed and I needed a fixture that would play off of the brushed gold accents found in it. I selected this Jonathan Adler fixture because it perfectly complemented the wall covering. As soon as it was up, I knew I made the right choice!

Next up was the family room. As you can see I went rightback to good ol’ Jonathan Adler!! I loved this fixture SO much that I ordered two of them. They worked perfectly with the antique brass finish and geometric elements of this room.

The condo has a very open floor plan with the dining room, family room, and kitchen all within view of each other. An open floor plan definitely influences lighting selections since they all have to work together and be cohesive in design. The dining room is right next to the Family room so I wanted another Antique Brass fixture. I also love the look of an over-sized pendant over a table and this was a great compliment!

Over the kitchen island, I needed a “wow” piece because the island is one of the first things you see when you walk into the condo from the entry. My client and I had saved many pictures of fixtures that had clear glass bulbs and staggered heights. After finding one and it being waaaay out of the budget, I happened upon this fixture after hours of searching. It is beautiful installed and when you turn it on, it makes the ceiling sparkle!

My other favorite fixture can be found in my client’s little girls’ bedroom. We had a whole Moroccan-style theme going on in here and luckily, she agreed when I told her the ceiling fan had to go and a lantern-style pendant had to be put up in it’s place. I have to thank digital magazines for this find. One night, I was clicking through the first issue of TRADhome and there it was, the perfect silver lantern! I also love that when you find something in a digital magazine, you can click and it takes you right to the source. I found the silver/glass lantern at la’viva home, which is based in New York City.

Hope to share final installation pictures with you all soon!

I agree.  Lighting absolutely makes the room and is money well spent.

Beautiful.  I had that Romo wallpaper in my Dining Room in a moulding detail before I moved from Wesley Chapel.  Tamino Wasabi.  It is one of my favorites.  :)   I love your choice of lighting with the paper.
