56 the Studio
By: Georgette Mosley
No you’re not imagining things, this bench really does look as though it’s floating in mid air! Oh Snap It’s Friday with H220430 Studio, a design firm based out of Tokyo, Japan most known for its collection of innovative furnishings. Take a seat and float away on this whimsically styled bench that attaches to the ceiling through a balloon arrangement giving off the illusion of its ability to defy gravity while simply hanging without a base. Held up by four anchors that are masterfully concealed by clusters of big red balloons, the design has away of bringing about a touch of fantasy and a creative playfulness.
In addition to the “Balloon Bench” H220430 has also created another floating seating arrangement called the “Mimic Bench.” Designed to be placed in a public setting, the seat is held up by sculpted figures who, at a glance, seem to be caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, mirroring and mimicking the world around them. So tell me, in passing, would these benches inspire you to momentarily take a load off?
