Best Hotel Gardens of Italy
By: Taylor Methfessel
One of our favorite travel destinations at SmartFlyer is Italy, a country rich with history, culture and beauty. From the canals of Venice to the cliffs of the Almafi coast, there’s little within this place that does not please the eye. And while we recommend visiting the famous sites, from the Trevi Fountain in Rome to the Leaning Tower in Pisa, sometimes the most beautiful sights can be found within the confines of your luxury hotel.
It’s the hotel gardens in Italy that we love the most. There’s nothing better than sitting underneath an orange tree with a good book, or lying down for a massage amongst the flowers and the butterflies that they attract. Here are some of our picks for the best hotel gardens in Italy:
Located just a short walk from the Spanish Steps, Hotel de Russie is an oasis within one of the most bustling cities in Italy. Located behind the hotel in a courtyard is the De Russie’s “Secret Garden.” Here you can find butterflies, orange trees and pathways that are ideal for an afternoon stroll. The best way to enjoy this garden is from a table at the outdoor restaurant, “Le Jardin de Russie.”
Located just outside of the city of Florence is Villa San Michele, a luxury hotel that is housed inside of a former monastery. The hotel gardens are filled with lemon trees and roses and date back to the fifteenth century. In their earliest days the gardens were cared for by Franciscan monks. The gardens appear most beautiful from one of the hotel’s lounge chairs, with a drink in hand of course! Guests are also able to tour the grounds with gardeners to examine the plants more closely.
The terraced gardens of Hotel Caruso overlook the Almafi Coast in the town of Ravello. Guests walk through the gardens to access the hotel’s infinity edge pool, which has been rated one of the best in the world. The way to experience these gardens is to get an outdoor massage amongst the olive trees and herbs while listening to the sounds of birds chirping. Hotel Caruso is also a popular wedding destination and couples can hold a cocktail reception or a banquet inside of these gardens.
