With today’s interiors complete with massive HDTVs, walls with built-in surround sound, and music at the ready with a touch of a button, I feel like many modern families are forgoing traditional instruments in the living room. As a total tech geek, I can understand the appeal for the biggest/best/latest gadgets and home entertainment, but there’s also no denying the appeal and grandeur of a piano.
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that you could have any living room, add a piano, and BAM! – you’ve got one classy interior. Even if you’re not a professional pianist, there’s no denying that these instruments are gorgeous to look at. And if nobody plays the piano in your home, they also make a beautiful place to display your favorite photos or bouquet of flowers.
I used to love going to my grandparents house and playing with their piano. And by “playing” the piano I mean annoying them to no end because the only song I knew how to bang out was Chopsticks. Regardless, they make a fun conversation piece and will capture every child’s attention.
I’m obviously no Beethoven, but I just feel more creative and musically inclined just by simply having them around. Pianos bring a “je ne sais pas” to the room that will have an effect on your guests and your interior design. Grand pianos make great additions to a massive foyer, and even a baby grand or spinet could add something special to a library or family room.
I know that there are a few clients still around that want to showcase their pianos in their homes, but unlike today’s tech gear, they haven’t gotten any smaller. I think that it can be a tricky task to integrate pianos into the home living room design, so I thought it would be cool to showcase a few of my favorite living rooms that do the piano justice.
